Formula

Mining profit formula

Daily Revenue Daily Coins × Coin Price
Daily Electricity Watts × 24 ÷ 1,000 × $/kWh
Daily Pool Fee Daily Revenue × Pool Fee%
Daily Profit Revenue − Electricity − Pool Fee
Break-Even Hardware Cost ÷ Daily Profit

Worked Example

Given

0.0005 BTC/day · BTC $60,000 · 3,200W · $0.12/kWh · 1% pool fee · $8,000 hardware

Daily Revenue
0.0005 × $60,000 = $30.00
Daily Electricity
3.2 × 24 × $0.12 = $9.216
Daily Pool Fee
$30 × 1% = $0.30
Daily Profit
$30 − $9.216 − $0.30 = $20.484
Break-Even
$8,000 ÷ $20.484 = ≈ 391 days

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use daily reward coins instead of hashrate?
Mining profitability from hashrate depends on network difficulty, which changes with every block adjustment (every 2 weeks for Bitcoin). Instead of embedding a difficulty table that becomes stale immediately, this calculator uses the daily coin reward from your pool dashboard — which already reflects your actual share of the current network difficulty. Check your pool's statistics page for your 24-hour average.
How is electricity cost calculated?
Daily electricity cost = Power (Watts) × 24 hours ÷ 1,000 × kWh rate. A 3,200W rig running continuously at $0.12/kWh costs 3.2 kW × 24 × $0.12 = $9.22/day. Electricity is typically the largest ongoing cost and the main determinant of profitability.
What is the pool fee?
Mining pools charge a fee for coordinating miners, typically 1–3% of block rewards. The fee is deducted from your daily revenue before you receive payment. Some pools (e.g. solo mining) have 0% fees but with higher variance in payouts.
What does the break-even calculation show?
Break-even days = Hardware Cost ÷ Daily Profit. It tells you how many profitable mining days are required to recover your hardware investment. If daily profit is negative, break-even is infinite (mining is not profitable at current coin prices and difficulty). Enter 0 for hardware cost to skip this calculation.
Does this include difficulty increases over time?
No. The calculator uses your current daily reward as a fixed input. Network difficulty tends to increase over time as more miners join, which reduces individual mining rewards. For long-term projections, input a conservatively lower daily reward that accounts for expected difficulty growth.
